This year's rankings stand as the largest and most diverse to date. It is a comprehensive assessment of higher education institutions worldwide. Bharathiar University was ranked in the band 801-1000 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023.
NIRF Ranking 2023: In the NIRF ranking 2023, Bharathiar University has been ranked 36th in the overall category, 21st in the university category and 38th in the research institution category.
Bharathiar University Coimbatore was founded in February 1982 under the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982) by the Government of Tamil Nadu. University Grants Commission (UGC) granted funds to the university in 1985. The university has been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and is recognised by UGC (University Grants Commission). NAAC has also awarded the university an 'A' grade in the third cycle assessment. The university is also approved by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education), ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities) and AIU (Association of Indian Universities). Over the years, the university has become a world-class university by gaining tremendous international recognition.

- Campus: Located 12 km away from Coimbatore, in the foothills of the Western Ghats in a campus size of 1000 acres. It is well connected for commuting, sports facilities, post offices, etc.
- Library: The Arignar Anna Central Bharathiar University library, which is located in the Madras University autonomous Postgraduate Centre, was constructed in 1981 and has an area of 11,230 square feet. The present seating capacity is around 330 people, with around 1,90,570 volumes encompassing all disciplines. The library has 136 national and international periodicals, as well as 10 major newspapers, in its collection. Journal back editions are accessible, some reaching as far back as the 1880s. Inside the library, there is also a photocopying service.
- Auditorium/Meeting Hall: Bharathiar University is also home to a fully equipped and air-conditioned auditorium and meeting halls for meetings, conferences, interviews, and other formal events.
